Cyndi Lauper's Gone Bluespec! -

On 25th March 2009 Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual was released in Japan on a Bluespec CD. This is the first Cyndi CD to be printed using this new technology.

What is a Bluespec CD?

Blu-spec CD describes an Audio CD manufactured by a proprietary process introduced by Sony Music Entertainment (SME) in late 2008. It's name derives from the similar manufacturing process to that used to create Blu-Ray Discs. Instead of a traditional infra-red laser, a blue laser is used for recording the pits on the CD master that is needed for disc replication. The blue laser creates more precise pits, causing less distortion in the optical read-out process. SME claims that this results in higher-quality audio when playing back a Blu-spec CD. A Blu-spec CD can be played on all CD players and does not require a blue laser to be read.

She's So Unusual Bluespec CD features 4 extra tracks: Money Changes Everything (Live in Irvine 1984), She Bop (Live in Irvine 1984), All Through The Night (Live in Irvine 1984) and Money Changes Everything (Live Summer Sonic 2007).

Across The Universe 2009 -

Cyndi Lauper has recorded the Beatles classic Across The Universe with the Japanese artist Jake Shimabukuro. His album titled Across The Universe was released in Japan on 18th March 2009. Cyndi originally recorded Across The Universe back in 1989. The '89 version has been played on US radio throughout the years but has never been released.

Jake Shimabukuro's affection for The Beatles has led him in the last few months to record with classical cello legend Yo Yo Ma and pop star Cyndi Lauper. The ulukele virtuoso and cellist teamed for an instrumental version of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War is Over) on Ma's latest CD, "Songs of Joy & Peace," and he recorded "Across the Universe" with Lauper for a forthcoming Beatles' tribute.

Thus when executives at his Japanese label suggested they were thinking of a releasing a Beatles' tribute album, he immediately embraced the project, and secured Lauper's help on one track. Jake has previously recorded Lauper's "Time After Time" on his "My Life" EP, and she had invited him to play at her concert last year in Kona.

"It's for a project I'm releasing in Japan," he explains. "We did a recording of The Beatles' 'Across the Universe.' I just played the ukulele and she sang. She likes being spontaneous, so prior to the session we didn't really plan much, she just wanted to see what would happen. It's basically a Beatles' tribute album with all ukulele arrangements. There are songs like 'Norwegian Wood,' 'Michelle,' 'Something,' 'All You Need is Love' and 'Here There and Everywhere.'"

Cyndi's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is one of the most downloaded tracks in Sony's SingStore in the UK, it has emerged.

SingStore is the online content portal that arrived alongside the PS3 iteration of Sony's world conquering karaoke franchise SingStar in December 2007, and has to date seen four million tracks downloaded by users at a cost of 99p each.

Lauper Defends Madonna's Love Life -

Madonna has defended Madonna's alleged relationship with Jesus Luz, saying that the media has "double standards".

The 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' singer claimed that there was nothing wrong with Madonna dating a man 28 years her junior.

"You know, how many old geezers do you see with young women? What's the double standard? Who cares?", Music News quotes her as saying.

"You know, they're both adults. Who cares? What's good for the goose is good for the gander."

Madonna met the 22-year-old Brazilian model during a photoshoot in December. She has reportedly since started taking him to weekly Kabbalah sessions.

The 31st Annual NYC Police Foundation Gala -

Cyndi Lauper wore a NYC Police outfit and helped others honour Mayor Michael Bloomfield on 3rd March 2009 at the legendary Waldorf Astoria. Cyndi also performed at the event. Others who attended were George Lucas, Tommy and Thalia Mottola, Sir Harold Evans, and Charlie Rose as they joined the gala’s honorary chair Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to support the foundation which works to strengthen the NYPD services keeping our city streets safe.
